An Excellent Learning Experience

We were given a tour of this Museum by Adrienne Grimmett who is a life long resident of Pauls Valley. She not only has an encyclopedic knowledge of Pauls Valley history but has a wonderful way of holding your interest as she weaves through the many exhibits and pictures . I would recommend a visit for anyone who wants to learn about life as it was lived in the generations before us. Many exhibits and pictures that have been donated and researched by families in the area.

    Still an active depot
Amtrak stops here and this is still a functioning train station. The museum opens at 9 and it is free. A friendly lady showed us around and also let us look on our own. Much of the old depot was restored. There were also numerous display cases filled with Pauls Valley history. It featured some local businesses of note including a spur maker whose spurs were used in movies. It had quite a bit of military items and even a Civil War section, even though there were no Civil War events in the area.

    Nice Museum and Steam Engine
This is an authentic Santa Fe Depot and Museum. It was built in 1905 of solid wood and in 1989 it was saved from demolition. It houses artifacts from the early 20th and late 19th centuries. This includes photos of daily life and old items used in daily living. An old steam engine with a tender rests on the North side of the museum. This is a “must see” stop for train buffs.
