Route 66 Abandoned Gas Station, Oklahoma, United States

VERY VERY COOL

Beware, it is RIGHT ON route 66 and you can miss it as you zip by. There are places down the road east or west to turn around. Very cool, very old gas station. Well worth the stop for photos. They do have a sheet placed in a frame that tells the history. It's a bit weathered, but as of this summer (2021) is still readable.

definitely a shell of its former self
Whenever I travel around the world I always make it a point to try and locate the unusual sights in a given area. Atlas Obscura is a good website to find these sites. The infamous route 66 used to travel right through the middle of Edmond OK, and this gas station was at one time fully operational and serving the itinerant travelers that roamed on that famous Rd. It can be a little hard to find but all you need to do is drive past the Round barn in Edmond and keep heading East a little bit. You'll see the skeleton that was the gas station sitting on the left-hand side of the road. There is no parking lot, just a gravel pull-off where you can park your car for the five minutes it takes to get out and take a picture. Certainly not a must see but it was an interesting diversion on our drive through the area. Not recommended For those with access to latitude/longitude apps: 35.6603/-97.2740

    Don’t blink and drive
You have to stay alert as you drive the Mother Road or you’ll miss the history and mystique of rt 66. Stop and read the sign but don’t take any bills.
