Loved our extended family getaway!

Our visit was with extended family, a mini family reunion with mostly adults and one toddler. I’m glad we rented the ADA cabin for my parents, one of which has limited mobility. We also rented another one bedroom cabin, a two bedroom cabin and a duplex. Our two bedroom cabin had very irregular steps that were vintage and beautiful, but could be treacherous for some. We had a fantastic time! We were fortunate to get to eat at the newly opened Foggy Bottom Kitchen - yummo!!

Beautiful State Park With Woods and Hiking
Travelled here from Dallas (just a 3 hour drive) and had a wonderful time. We camped at the RV part of the park and spent 2 days wandering about the beautiful woods. Note - the trails, while fairly well marked, make it easy to get on the wrong trail so be sure and take a decent trail map (we forgot ours). Some of the trails are a bit rocky but still navigable for the majority of people. Definitely a return trip in the offing!

Great State park even in the winter
We visited three times while we stayed in McAlester to get in our daily walk. The trail map was a bit hard to figure out so we just walked around the cabins (you can rent them in window) and down by the lake and river and the lower campgrounds. A bit of a trash issue so we picked up a lot of it during our walk (the ones we could reach by the side of the road). Some of the restrooms are open during the winter while others are winterized. Locals were there fishing a few campers. You can also bring your horse and camp with them as they have stalls for the horses.
