Route 66

The pony truss bridge is a must-see if you’re traveling Route 66 in Oklahoma. Traffic is light, so it’s easy to stop for pictures. There are reports that the bridge will be rebuilt, but it was still open when we visited in October.

    Cool bridge, unique
38 trusses, just shy of 4,000 ft long, this bridge is the longest on Rt. 66. It’s posted 65 mph which makes it the ONLY bridge so posted also. But don’t go that fast! It’s worth savoring at a cruisin’ speed of 45 or less. My husband took a 70 second video as we drove across. Very cool bridge!

    A Photogenic Bridge
The bridge, just before Bridgeport on the stretch of Route 66 from El Reno to Hydro in Oklahoma, is ¾ of a mile long and makes for impressive photos. There is often no traffic on it at all; just wait for a moment and you will get the photo you want. The bridge is called a Pony Bridge because the steel sections that it is made of are called Ponies...and this bridge the longest we saw on 66, made from 38 Pony sections.
