Okfuskee County Historical Society and Museum, Oklahoma, United States

Dedicated Volunteers
This museum is as unassuming as Okemah itself. Like many local Historical Society museums, their collection consists of a wide array of donated items. Many are mundane (i.e. weathered basketball, creepy dolls,) but they also have a unique, albeit humble, section dedicated to Woody Guthrie. The highlight of which is a mock-up of Woody's boyhood home built out of its original wood planks. The staff were exceptionally friendly. Hours fluctuate, so call in advance to ensure they're open.

Small but mighty!
Stopped in during Woodyfest to learn more about the town's history and its ties to the Guthrie family. Very interesting, well-organized exhibits, with lots of ephemera relevant not only to Okfuskee County but Oklahoma in general, and carefully curated by people who really love this area - and it shows! Stop in soon, you'll be glad you did.

Great help with history of Okemah, OK
The people were helpful and I even found a picture of my great grandfather there. We love Okemah, my dad's home before WWII. My family came to Okfuskee County in the 1800's. I actually went to Okemah in 1916, but there was not a 2016 option.
