If you're driving through, stop and check out the dam!

Just passing though, we drove across the dam and pulled into the downstream side of the dam. Very impressive! Definitely worth stopping. We walked all the way up near the base of the dam. Lots of large birds including herons and pelicans. Nice restrooms at the parking lot as well. We also turned in at the state park itself to see if there was anything worth seeing on a "drive thru" like ours...but not much to see. Drive up to the Ancient Forest instead if you want views and hikes.

    Weekend Visit
The cabin was clean on the inside. Coffee maker and appliances. Extra pillows, sheets, and towels. The porch/deck of the cabin was really dirty. A good broom sweep would be in order before a guest arrives. Boat docks very steep!! No courtesy docks were in the water for launching a boat. Boat launch is about a mile from the cabins. The cove behind the cabins is not conducive for tying up the boat and going to the cabin. Courtesy slips are available at the marina and a person could unhook the trailer and drive the distance to the cabins if they choose. We found out there are a few rental golf carts which would help for back and forth also. The marina restaurant (winn’s) food was good and there was live music on the patio. We would visit again, noting small issues, and know more of what to expect. Four stars because of the very steep boat ramps and dirty porch at the cabin.

    Good Time
My wife and I stayed in a one bedroom cabin at Keystone State Park yesterday. The Keystone Park, campgrounds, RV areas, and boat docks are very well maintained, and ALL of the staff we encountered were very friendly and professional. Our cabin had a nice view of Lake Keystone, and had two decks. Sitting on the decks afforded us great views of the many songbirds and waterfowl flying close to our cabin. The trip became "complete" when three adult American Bald Eagles flew within 50-60' from us! Bald Eagles are truly magnificent birds! The cabin had a nice living room/kitchen area, and an adequate sized bedroom, and the bathroom was definitely tiny. The windows were new, and the interior looked as if it had been painted within a recent time period. The exterior...a totally different situation. Peeling paint and rotten wood siding definitely needs to be addressed. Deferred maintenance is not a good thing. All in all we truly enjoyed the Keystone "experience."
