    Coon creek recreational area
We stayed at Coon creek recreational area which is a campground at Kaw lake. We arrived on a weekday. It was nice and quiet. The bathrooms were very clean. They were toilet sink and shower. Our spot number 20 was excellent. We had lots of space for our dogs to roam. Once Friday arrived, the campground was full. Lots of kids running around. There’s a nice playground for kids. A boat ramp and tons of great spots. It was first come first served in October. It got very windy and it rained a couple of times.

    Disappointing all around
We left Oklahoma City planning to swim and hike at Kaw Lake. Circumstances combined to make both impossible. First, the map distributed by the Kaw Lake Association showing camping and hiking areas was incorrect. We arrived at one spot interlaced with hiking trails on the map. In fact, it was a boat ramp unconnected to any other part of the park. Second, we thought we’d try the swimming beaches. Notwithstanding that the websites would seem to indicate that they were open, both swimming beaches were closed. Third, we finally found a hiking trail. We were soon covered with ticks and scurried back to the car. Kaw Lake was a disappointing bust.
