The Birthplace of Jim Thorpe, Worlds Greatest Athlete

Born in 1888 in Oklahoma Territory, Jim Thorpe was a Sac and Fox Indian. After attending the Sac and Fox agency school and Haskell Indian Junior College in Lawrence, Kansas, he transferred to Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania. At Carlisle he led the football team to victories over some of the nation's best college teams—the Army, Navy, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Pennsylvania, and Nebraska. In 1912 he participated in the Olympic Games in Stockholm, winning gold medals in both the decathlon and pentathlon. It was then that King Gustav V of Sweden dubbed him "the world's greatest athlete." This is off the website and there is only a Monument left where the house Jim Thorpe was born in was located at.. The Brithplace is actually approx. 6 miles outside of Prague and the map is actually set to the location but the address given is ;not.. there is not an actual physical address of the location but its a miust see

Honored to live on the same land as a legend!
It's always easy to give directions to my home in the north eastern corner of Pottawatomie County in Oklahoma, because a special sign marks my driveway. In front of my modest ranch style home located at 51079 Moccasin Trail Road Prague, Oklahoma is a bright green sign, with a arrow pointed south, which reads "Birth Place of Jim Thorpe!" My home sits on 3 acres of Sac and Fox Nation Reservation land in Oklahoma about 7 miles south west of the town of Prague. It is a corner partial with a side road that runs along the west side of the property. The property was originally the north west corner of the Thorpe Farm where Jim Thorpe and his twin brother Charlie were born. If one was to turn south down the side road that borders the western portion of my property, after approximately a quarter mile, they would come to a wide open pasture on the east side of the road. In front of this pasture, where cattle may or may not be grazing, there is a large rose granite marker which stands approximately five feet tall by three feet wide. This marker was placed in front of this pasture to mark the site of the small cabin of the parents of twin brothers, James and Charles Thorpe, who were born here to parents who were members of the Sac and Fox Nation of Oklahoma. Every night at sun set for the last eight years I have walked with my dogs to this marker. I sit there for just a few minutes on the top rail of the white fence and gaze into the open pasture. It is calming to be with, and listen to, the peaceful bounty of nature and simpler times. I encourage all to input my address into their GPS, follow the signs, feel the calmness of this simple place and pay respect to the greatest athlete of all time who was born there.

    Must see
Still the worlds greatest athlete and needs to be visited! They have two of the markers, one on Jim Thorpe Blvd in Prague and one 7 Miles outside of Prague where his home once stood. Take your pic
