A much-photographed Route 66 icon
The Cotton Boll Motel went out of business a long time ago. The building’s facade has been masked, though the motel’s classic shape is still evident, and the iconic neon sign looks much the worse for wear. However, it’s easy to see why this is one of the popular photo stops along historic Route 66. It’s all about that sign. It’s sad to see what has happened to the motel and the town of Canute since being bypassed by the interstate nearly half a century ago. Part of the old Cotton Boll Motel is used as a residence, so be respectful and don’t ring the night bell.
