Historic Ruins & Museum

We visited on a Tuesday and toured the Museum which was well organized with a brief history of Choctaw , Fort Towson and the Steamboat Heroine. We then went outside to see the ruins which were difficult to see with overgrown weeds. A lawn guy was mowing, but that should be done on Monday since it is closed for tours. Use vegetation killer or weed eat so ruins can be seen. Sign maintenance is required due to mildew obstructing words. Directional signs outdoors would be a great help. Someone knowledgeable inside would be helpful.

    Glimpse Into the Frontier
We really liked this place but it is mostly ruins so there isn't much to see. The museum is open and it has very good information on the Choctaw people and an exhibit about the nearby discovery of the steamship Heroine. The lady running the place was great and shared stories about the wreck and the Choctaw. Definitely worth an hour or two if you are passing through.

    Interesting
Took young teenage children during spring break. Other than the male clerk at the desk, we were the only one there. Asked what we do once we leave the indoor museum and the clerk was noncommittal. I asked "do we wonder aimlessly or is the a certain area to start and he kind shrugged and said yea. Anyway about half way through following a path around the ruins, we noticed an older man in front of us that would stop and watch us. When we would look up, he would walk away a few feet and stare straight ahead. Look up again and he's turned facing us and watching. When I walked toward him to see if he needed something, was curious if he was associated with the park. he left pretty quickly on foot, towards the area of the storage shed. We properly left without finishing. Very unnerving.
