Fort Cobb State Park, Oklahoma, United States

A Relaxing Three Days

We booked three days because none of the available camping sites had full hookup. Eagle Nest Campground is the nicest of all the ones we visited, but still some sites are difficult to back into. The Park Hosts were available and helped us contact the park office to change our assigned site. They also checked in on us and made sure we were comfortable. Nice fishing lake, nice golf course, but not much else in the area that we discovered.

    Cabin at cobb
I still love the lake but it has just become overcrowded. Occasionally we will go check on our cabin but literally haven’t stayed in 8 years due to the change in atmosphere.

Would return for day use, but probably not camp
We tent camped in the Deer Run area for 3 nights. The camp hosts were friendly, there were bathrooms, laundry facilities, and pay-for-use showers within walking distance, and the beach (no day use for the deer run area) was amazing--nice shallow area for my toddler, it was not sandy (moss covered rocks, but not slippery), and the muddy sand or lake bottom was very compact, soft, and you didn't sink when walking in. Water was pretty clean (no scum washing up). I would highly recommend for boating, fishing, and swimming! But I personally felt like the campsites were WAY too close to each other. If you're looking for a little seclusion, you won't find it here. The electric sites are practically on top of each other. We also encountered a ton of ticks (over a dozen on us in 3 days, with diligent deet/bug spray use) which obviously is part of nature, but perhaps non-native visitors to the area may want to be aware and prepare accordingly! The sites were also pretty sandy/dusty with lots of ant hills. There are lovely (newer-looking) playgrounds on most of the camp areas as well, which was very nice. Only other mention-able detail would be that they only have 1 trail in the whole park and is very over grown (the ranger told us that there are parts where you literally cannot tell if you're on the trail or not).
