History Frozen In Time

The Oklahoma Land Run Monument contains one of the world’s largest collection of bronze statues depicting optimistic homesteaders frozen in time on their way to claim a better life on the April 22, 1889 land run. The 45 pieces were sculpted over a 20 year period and are the work of Norman artist, Paul Moore. The intricate works of art are beautifully crafted & detailed. The pieces capture the essence of the historic event. It’s a nice tribute to those people that had the courage to take a chance to wildly race to stake their claim for a new life. Well done

For you history buffs - this is a must see.
To fully appreciate this monument, one should probably have some idea of how the land runs in Oklahoma were held and how that led to statehood in 1907. The monument is beautifully done and grander than we expected to see. It does cross the canal and one can see it all by being on both sides. There is a sidewalk that takes you from one side to the other. On the Water Taxi, we learned the figure of a man with the first set of horses, and ready to enter the water, is the figure of the artist of this monument. He wanted to be remembered for being a part of history. So, if you really want to appreciate the history of how events led up to Oklahoma statehood, this monument, along with several stones and such with writing on them that tell of this event, this is a must see monument. We found the best way to get there was going in by the Pro Shop and finding a road to the monument. We heard several people in Bricktown that day confused as to how to get to it.

    Very Interesting!
This was a neat stop on a road trip through the area. There are several signs to read about the Land Run, and the statues are so large and detailed. To get to it, head toward Bass Pro Shop, then take the street that goes under the Interstate to the parking lot (it's free). Then it's a very short walk to the monument (also free).
