For History Buffs

Others could probably care less, but if you're into history, especially that of the WWII era, this is right up your alley. Boise City was the only community in the U.S. to be bombed by bombers in WWII. B-17 pilots on a training run mistook their target and dropped a half-dozen dud bombs on the town. Luckily no one was hurt, but there was damage. This monument has a replica bomb and a plaque giving details. Neat little piece of history.

    Boise City Bombed!
Boise City does have the distinction of being the only American City bombed during World War II. A plaque set on a concrete crater with a WWII practice bomb, located on the Northeast Corner of the Courthouse Square, is quite near a location where one of the practice bombs fell. It was delivered by aviators in training from the Dalhart, Texas air base, who thought the lights around Boise City's Courthouse Square marked their "practice" target. A quick thinking Deputy Sheriff cut the lights, and the bombing stopped. Visit the Cimarron Heritage Center in Boise City, Oklahoma for more details!

    Bomb memorial
This was very nice to see and learn the history. However this memorial has been removed as they are redoing the town center, so i hope they put it back as the construction gets done.
