Meaningful as a means to remember

This museum is very meaningful, and the video they show brought me to tears. The museum staff can provide a brochure in English if you ask for one, which helps to understand the general story the museum seeks us to remember. There are also limited English signs that translations done by a group of 9th-grade students. They did a great job.

A Shocking Reminder of the War
This Memorial Museum is a very solemn reminder of the War in the Pacific and one that should not be missed in a tour of Okinawa. The museum and ground surrounding it are dedicated to remind the world of the tragedies of war. The area is quiet and well maintained and the staff are extremely polite. Until I had visited this place, I never knew about the sinking of the Tsushima Maru. It was a passenger ship evacuating school children, parents and teachers from Okinawa in anticipation of an impending attack by the USA during World War II. A US submarine sank the ship, along with other warships in the convoy, at night. It would be over 20 years after the war, before the US sailors were made aware of what had happened. Other than comfortable shoes and a camera, a handkerchief, to dry teardropd, may be advisable. Many of the 767 school children who were lost during the incident have their photos posted on the walls.

This museum is about one of those stories of WW2 that are not on history books. It's a memorial for a ship called Tsushimamaru. The cargo was full of students escaping from Okinawa before American invasion. However the ship was sunk before reaching its destination and most of the children lost their lives. Very touching
