Top-rated travel experience

Just a fantastic travel experience. Unique, awesome in scale, appeals to a wide array of audiences. I loved seeing all of the different Air Force One's- neat to see their development (including FDR's wheelchair component) and to see the plane where LBJ took the oath. The kids loved the VR things (which have an additional cost but since the museum is free otherwise it's not too bad). The kids can explore and walk around in planes. We were there for like 2 hours and only saw a small part. It's a fantastic travel experience and highly recommend if you are anywhere in southwest Ohio. The kids loved it (6 and 12) and I and the wife loved it, which is often hard to make everyone happy but this nails it. I want to go back and see the rest.

    DO IT !
This is THE Best aviation museum in the United States, and it may be one of the best in the world. If you have an interest in: aviation, aviation history, the history of the U.S. Air Force or just history – you owe it to yourself to visit this facility. I don’t think one could really take in all of the exhibits in less than two days. I’m serious – it’s that big. You could spend more than two days if you wanted. I recommend budgeting 10 hours spread over two days. That doesn’t have to be a 50/50 split of time between two days but break in there somewhere really helps. I’ve been to several Air & Space Museums, including the excellent Udvar-Hazy Museum near Dulles International Airport and the National Museum of the Air Force tops them all. Parking is free, general admission is free, there are some extras that you can pay for if you wish. During our visit the water fountains were turned off due to the last vestiges of COVID-19 idiocy. I do believe clear plastic water bottles are permitted. It’s an enormous facility and despite air conditioning, it can still get a bit warm. Dress appropriately and wear comfortable shoes. The exhibits are nothing short of amazing! There is some INCREDIBLE history within this museum. My advice is plan for days and DO IT ! You will not regret it.

    Leisurely, family, day trip…
We went to the museum in Dayton, OH on a Saturday with our family. It was very busy, but we didn’t mind that. It was free for admission and they just asked for donations at the entrance. It’s awesome that this is free to the public. There was plenty to look at and everything was very well maintained. There were lots of things to do and exhibits to view. We were confused about how to get “stamps” for the kids so we ended up not doing that. There was staff around, but they were not very friendly. We also bought tickets for the extra’s at the beginning up front for the simulation rides. It was huge and it took a long time to get through everything which we aren’t complaining about, just set out plenty of time to view this museum as it is huge and you don’t want to miss seeing it all! We did not get to utilize the tickets unfortunately on the day we went because they had to evacuate the entire museum for a fire as the alarm was sounding. Then we found out the tickets were both non refundable and also expired on the day you bought them. So that was a bummer. Overall it’s worth the long drive, but do not buy tickets early. Wait until you get to the simulations to do so! Great family day trip!
