grand-daughter wanted to visit a museum

We had our grand-daughter with us for a few days and my wife asked her 'what do you want to do this afternoon?' and she said "go to a museum'. We had taken her to the places close to us already and suggested the Allen County Museum and she said "fine" an so we went. We got there about 2:30pm on this Saturday afternoon and they close at 4pm. We had not allotted enough time to really 'do' this museum. It was a great experience ... lots of exhibits that were very interesting, especially the model train room and it's contents. The 'suggested donation' is $5.00 per person ... it's value is worth a lot more. We will return !

One of the best museums in the state
Lima and the surrounding area have had quite a history, and it's wonderfully retold in this museum near downtown. Want to see a recreation of Noah's Arc and the great flood done in an entirely unique way? Visit the Allen County Museum. Want to hear about how John Dillinger spent his time in Lima? Visit the Allen County Museum. Want to see albino animals and various items removed from various patients by the same doctor over the years and a dollhouse of Mt. Vernon and fossils and locomotives and minerals and knick knacks, and . . . you get the pitcure. A historic house and a children's garden are also located on the grounds. This is a terrific museum that you need a few hours to take it all in. A true gem. No fee but donations encouraged.

How did I miss this gem?
I was born and raised in Lima. I've gone to meetings and Christmas tree exhibits in the past but had never actually gone through the entire museum. When a family member came to visit, I took her there. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of the exhibits. I've gone to many museums in larger cities and now don't know why I missed our own gem. The train, John Dillinger and wartime exhibits were extremely interesting.
