Worth a ride on the Canal!
Take one of the hour or so long trips along the Canal. Not expensive and although the commentary is in French, you are provided with a written translation in English. Very good value and a lovely way to see a bit more of this city.

A nice place to walk along on a sunny afternoon.
While walking along the banks of the River Garonne we came across the small Canal de Brienne, which allows boats to by-passes the Bazacle (Weir), by two locks, and join the canals Midi and Lateral a La Garonne downstream, on the way to the Mediterranean Sea. The digging of the canal took place between 1765 and 1776, it is only 1,560 m (0.97 mi) in length, but it made the city center accessible by water. It was named after the Archbishop of Toulouse at the time Étienne-Charles Loménie de Brienne. The long line of plane trees alongside its banks cast a shadow of shade over the house boats. TIP: At the canal start by the Ecluse Saint-Pierre lock are a few coffee bars to sit at and look at the river Garonne and entrance to the Lock.

Canal path could be better maintained by the city.
It’s a nice walk but the path could be better maintained. I saw many people out enjoying a sunny lunch time along the canal but the path was mainly mud. I don’t know why the city wouldn’t put down some gravel for the clearly well used path along the canal. It would be better for both locals and tourists alike.
