Beach is Great...Finding Parking is Not
Waimea Bay is the deepest bay on Oahu’s North Shore and the birthplace of big-wave surfing, especially in winter. Between November to February, waves reach up to 40 feet in height, challenging even the most expert surfers. Even if you're not a fan of riding the waves, watching these pro surfers in action will get your heart racing too. Otherwise, visit during summer for the soft sand, arresting seaside views, and calmer waters—perfect for swimming, snorkeling, diving and even cliff-jumping. The wave conditions here fluctuate quickly, so look out for the colored flags before diving in. – Tripadvisor

people love it too much ;-)
"Waimea Bay Beach Park" is located off of Kamehameha Highway (Hwy 83) about 5 miles north of Haleiwa Town. You can get to this location using public transportation, but most people arrive by car. When you exit the highway, you enter a nicely configured parking lot. The area between the parking lot and the beach has restrooms, showers and picnic areas. The beach is wide and offers a panoramic view. There's a large rock outcrop; when conditions are "safer", people like to jump from it into the sea. There are lifeguards on duty. During winter the beaches on the north shore and west side are pretty much off-limits and always red-flagged because of dangerous surf. Stay out of the water and watch a surf completion if one is taking place. During the summer months, this location offers a nice location for swimming and snorkeling. If you have water shoes, bring those. If the sand gets hot, or if you want to walk on rocky surfaces, these offer more stability than flip flops. Waimea Bay Beach Park is my favorite beach on the North Shore. But this beach's popularity also creates the biggest complaint: there isn't enough parking.

Beach is Great...Finding Parking is Not
Unfortunately, we had very turbulent weather the day we came(July), as it was off and on rain and constant cloud cover. Parked in the Catholic church parking lot for $10, as the main lot was full and everyone was searching thru traffic for parking. There are bathrooms at the main lot though. Beach area is nice though. Lots of sand to lay out on. Weren't too many people on one side of the beach. Definitely a nice difference from the neverending crowd of people at Waikiki Beach. Waves weren't big because it was summer, but water gets deep fast. People were cliff jumping as well. Came in the early afternoon, and traffic getting in & out of the general area of North Shore was awful, so go in the morning. The famous food trucks were right up the street from beach. But great beach though
