One of the principal Pearl Harbor Historic Sites, our unique interactive museum is located in the battlefield hangers of historic Ford Island which were attacked by the Imperial Japanese Navy on December 7, 1941, the beginning of WWII. Aircraft, such as a Japanese Zero and the Stearman in which former President George H.W. Bush soloed as the war's youngest aviator, illustrate how aviation helped stem the war. You'll view historic videos, including a movie of the beginning of the war. Enjoy the authentic gift shop, 1940s themed Laniakea Cafe, and our state-of-the-art 360 degree combat flight simulators. The mission of Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum is to steward America’s first aviation battlefield of World War II sharing the artifacts, personal stories, the impact and response to the December 7, 1941 attack and the Pacific region battles that followed, honoring those who have defended our freedom so we might educate and inspire future generations.

    Heroes of the Sky's
A piece of American History that cannot be missed. Yes, it's another ~$25 per person but worth the price. Dozens of planes to see with plenty of history, stories and artifacts vital to the allies success in WWII and beyond. Several of the exhibits are hands off but there are plenty of planes stationed outside that are open to touch however, none of the planes are open to climb into. The highlight for us, especially my 13yo, was the flight simulator. There is an additional cost for this over the museum entrance fee and the flight lasts about six minutes. The simulator is much like a video game but it moves based on the pilot's inputs. In other words, you will actually go up, down, roll left, roll right, barrel roll and a full loop; if you can stomach it. Tours are self guided and should last around 1.5-2 hours to include the simulator. There is a little diner on site for food and a gift shop. Transportation to the actual museum is by shuttle bus that picks up at the main center and drops off at the Aviation Museum as well as the USS Missouri. The bus comes about every 10-15 minutes and the trip takes 5-10 minutes. Bring water and leave your bags at home. No bags are allowed other than small clutch sized purses.

There is more to it than you think!
My family and I have done pearl harbor several times, so we decided to try the aviation museum. You catch a bus for it at the back of the visitor center. I would definitely recommend seeing the museum in the morning because it does get more crowded as the day goes on. You can purchase tickets for it online. I also recommend the free audio guide. It is very informative and go at your own pace. It seems small on the inside, but there is more to it if you go outside the museum and turn left. There are some planes out there to look at as well as a hangar and sometimes a special exhibit. This museum is awesome and my family and I loved it!
