Must See Attraction - Old Turf Farmhouses - Museum - Old Icelandic Farm
A must-see stop along the ring road. This museum features old turf farmhouses. Well staffed and organized, you will feel like you've traveled back in time as you visit the houses and surrounding area. Driftwood and and turf are the main items used to construct these buildings. Next to the buildings is a beautiful church and an active farm with farm animals. The first room in the exhibit features pictures of leading citizens of the Skagafjordur area from the 19th and 20th centuries. All of the rooms are setup to show what it was like to live on a farm in the early 1900's. Very nice exhibits that are well-maintained to this day. Great Icelandic history of life in Iceland many years ago. In addition to all of this, many of your best photos from Iceland will come from this sight. Great scenic views all around and the buildings are exactly what you are looking for as a memory of your trip.

Worth the stop
I very much enjoyed the visit, it was an interesting site with seeing how the people used to live and being greatful that we no longer have to live like that. We visited near the end of the day and towards the end of the visit it was really hard to see anything as there seems to be no artificial lighting inside - keeping it authentic I guess. Price was 1700 ISK and 1500 for seniors if I'm remembering correctly.

Interesting and informative
We stopped here as we drove around the ring road. The museum is well maintained the the docent was very knowledgeable. The museum also had a little cafe where they served soup and bread and home made pastries. It gave the place a very cozy feeling. We also visited the church. A lovely site all around.
