Beautiful quiet park in centre of Kuopio
I visited in early Autumn, the beautiful flowers are colorful. The trees are mature and I can imagine in winter layers of white snow on the branches. The Lutheran church has a unique exterior, I did not visit the inside as it was closed at the time

Snellman Park
Snellman Park is hugh park below the Lutheran Cathedral. Snellman Park is the city's oldest park in the centre of Kuopio. Before the park phase, the Snellman Park area was located under the name Kustaantori, Suurtori or Kirkkotori, the first main market in the city. Starting in 1842, trees were planted in the area and around the cathedral. In the 1850s, the market square was moved to the site of the current Kuopio market square, and the previous market square began to be moved more widely into a park. The park was known as Church Park. In the middle of the park, it was unveiled on 3 July 1886, a bust of J. V. Snellman, which was carved by Johannes Takanen. As a result, the park was named Snellman Park. The park area has been modified in several stages anyway. In 2018–2019, as part of the renovation of the park, much of the older trees will be felled.

Under construction
On our visit, this oldest park in Kuopio was under construction. I am sure the park will be beautiful after the works have finished. The park was named Snellman Park after the bust of J.V. Snellman was sculpted in 1886, five years after the death of this influential Fennoman philosopher and Finnish statesman.
