Beautiful spot to break journey

Even though the Yoda Wewa often referred to as Giants Tank skirts the Mannar Road to some length, it could be easily missed as the tank bund obstruct the view of the tank to the main road. Once on the bund the scenic beauty unfolded showing its vast span of water. On the bund it was a refreshing atmosphere with welcome cool breeze. At the time of our visit the tank had a fair volume of water and a little distance away from a sluice gate that was open there was a massive whirlpool that had been created by the suction of water. On the long journey to Mannar, Giants tank was an ideal spot to stop and stretch the limbs and to have the our tiffins.

    Giant's Tank
One of the largest tanks in Sri Lanka which was built by King Dhatusena between 459-477. The water from Yodha Wewa fed to 162 smaller tanks and irrigates about 11,000 hectares of paddy land in the area, which is known as the rice bowl of the country.
