Port Tour and Tasting

Built by a family of winemakers from the Douro, in 1751, Ferreira possessed a rich tradition and a prominent role in the history of Porto Wine. Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira contributed significantly to the consolidation of the brand. A legendary woman with a unique personality, who became a myth and a symbol of strength, facing the adversities of nineteenth-century Douro. Ferreira Cellars invite you to discover a brand over 250 years old, a symbol of the highest quality that encapsulates Portugal's heart and soul.

    Another bucket list item checked!
I rated 5 based mostly on the guided tour I participated (I found the receptionist a little snubbish, though she was useful to the Cellar as she spoke French and English). Our English-speaking guide was, while a bit rehearsed, witty and informative. I first thought it was expensive to go on a tour with 3 different port wines to taste at EU 19, but after a great tour of the cellar to learn how port wine was made and Ferreira family stayed in business while others struggled, I started to feel better about the steep pricing. The selection of white, ruby, and tawny port wine that were offered at the end of the tour was, to me, excellent and quite generous in portions. My son, who joined me at free of charge due to his age, was offered a glass of orange juice. I used to only drink aged tawny (10 years or older), but I discovered my love for white port. A visit to Porto to taste port wine that was not easily obtained in the US was one of my bucket list items. Thank you, Ferreira Cellars, for fulfilling my dream. BTW, the cellar was kept sparkling clean. While COVID scare is becoming a bit of the past, I appreciated the effort obviously made to keep the customers safe.

    Informative and interesting
The tours in these port cellar places are phenomenally popular so if you’re reading this before you go to Porto I would recommend choosing your place and trying to book in advance, despite what some of the travel books say. This particular tour and tasting was fairly short but informative enough. There are different tasting levels and types catering for different tastes and budgets. We had no choice as we got the last two slots on the last English speaking tour of the day so we only got two tasters but they were a good size and decent quality.
