Tourist central, but never dull

Cais da Ribera is the street that runs along the Douro from the Pestana Vintage Hotel to the Ponte Louis I bridge. Home to many bars and restaurants and to the boat trip sellers on this side of the river and to street buskers and musicians ( look out for the old man who paints himself silver and poses as a chiming clock, well worth a few coins. It is a magnet for tourists and is always busy, but always lively and always fun. This section affords great views of the iconic metal bridge and Vila Nova de Gaia on the opposite bank with its many port wine lodges. It also has the advantage of catching the afternoon sun and is a great spot to sit outside one of the many Bart’s with a Porto Tonic and watch the world and his wife walk by.

Old town Porto riverfront
Ribeira district is the riverfront of old town Porto which is right behind it in a maze of old narrow winding streets. Ribeira is very popular with both, locals and tourists with many bars, restaurants, street performers,...etc. Walking it will reward you with great views of Douro and the iconic Dom Luis bridge. However, have in mind it's a high tourist area, so you can guess prices in establishments around are higher with lower service quality. TIP: Great views of Ribeira district are from Vila Nova de Gaia right across or from the upper level of Dom Luis bridge.

The center of Porto and not only of its nightlife
It can be said that Cais da Ribeira is the center of Porto and not only of its nightlife, In fact, many of the short cruises along the Douro river depart from here and tourists gather here to stroll and enjoy the view of the river and Gaia on the other bank. The transit of tourists between the two banks of the river through the lower deck of the Dom Luís I bridge is uninterrupted and intense. So we did too strolling, taking pictures and stopping in the several cafes, bars and restaurants that are present on one side of the road reserved for pedestrian only. Here in the evening the good music of the street performers helps to make the stay in this crowded area pleasant, Definitely not to be missed if you visit Porto.
