Pieni Karhunkierros Trail, Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland

4.5 (47 reviews) Spent More than 3 hours Ranking #1 in Juuma Hiking Trails

Got my legs shaking

Very nice hike for a day trip/ overnight or even fishing (with permits). Enough to get your legs shaking, especially with a heavy backpack. Awesome views, plenty of stops with places to cook and many bathrooms.

Fantastic family walk in the snow
Really great activity! We walked from Basecamp Oulanka, anti clockwise after advice that it’s easier to climb the 252 steps half way round than descend them. We packed sandwiches and chocolate, and hot drinks, and carried snow shoes for the steep sections (though wore walking boots for 70% if the trail). It took us (2 fit adults and 2 fit children aged 10 and 11) 5 hours to complete. Fantastic views, great locations for shelters / huts and great tracks in the snow: elk, squirrel, stoat. Saw a few birds and enjoyed the peace.

    Great trail and beautiful scenery
My girlfriend and I, both novice hikers, walked his trail in September. Without taking any longer breaks, it took us about four hours. There are some steeper hills, but the whole trail is very safe and absolutely do-able even for people like us, who are not in great shape and don't hike a lot. The scenery is amazing and once the crowd thins out a bit (it's a popular trail), you can enjoy some quiet moments with nature. I absolutely recommend this trail for anyone wanting to experience the outdoors on a day trip. Tip: If you go clockwise, you will have to descend the largest hill on some steep stairs, going counterclockwise, you go up those stairs. We decided to go clockwise and were glad we did, because the stairs are pretty narrow, so taking a break when going up isn't really an option.
