Maakalla, Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland
5.0 (4 reviews) Spent Ranking #6 in Kalajoki Islands
Small island with fishing village
The rugged beauty of the island is worth to see. We made a cruise to Maakalla on Galeas Ansio from Rahja's harbour. Maakalla's speciality is that it has autonomy and is governed by local fishermen.

Place worth to visit
I was suprised how much it affected to me... Island with all roughness from the sea. Fishing village with nice church and small houses. Tasty smoked fish and beaty of island nature.

Such a lovely place!
Maakalla, Kalajoki is really worth visiting - and we were really lucky with lovely September weather - no mosquitoes or bugs, and still the sun was shining and warm and the nights quite long. There are some lovely walks - including the ones along the boardwalks stretching over the beautiful long beaches, but also a fantastic nature trail that ends up at a barbeque place (kota in Finnish) with firewood supplied (bring your own matches) and easy access toilets (bring toilet paper)
