Magic Ice Lofoten, Northern Norway, Norway

Great experience - definitely visit if you're passing on the Hurtigruten cruise

Magic Ice, in Svolvær – the capital of Lofoten, offers you the pleasure of browsing ice art and coastal culture while enjoying a variety of refreshments. Sculptures and installations made of ice, dramatically lit and presented together with sound, music and images, tell the story of nature, traditions and the life of the fisherman in this abundant island realm. Magic Ice has an atmosphere that has to be experienced from the inside! It is more than just an “ice bar”, it is a crystal clear reflection of a distinctive community built on the riches of the sea – in the heart of the landscape where it all came to be.

Interesting but short and a bit overpriced
We visited the ice bar only as the weather was bad outside and we needed to cancel our outdoor program. It was interesting as we had never visited such place before so I did not regret it, however, there was not much things to do and see, we could get around within 20-25 minutes including taking so many photos and drinking the little welcome drink. Considering this, the entrance fee was quite high (which I really understand from the operator's perspective). There is -6 Celsius degrees inside so even with coat and the additional gloves and poncho they give the visitors it can be cold, I cannot imagine that someone is there for hours for chatting and drinking with friends :)

    Unusual but expensive
An interesting but expensive experience. Is the inside cool? Absolutely. There are not a lot of ice bars to go visit, but the temps of course required to keep all of the furniture and sculptures intact do make it a little uncomfortable as well. At $25 for one adult entry and a drink, the price is a bit steep for an experience that for most will last about half an hour before you’re ready to go outside to warm up. It’s a one-of-a-kind style experience so you just need to decide if the cost is worth the short time.
