Museo de la Pachamama, Northern Argentina, Argentina

4.5 (388 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Province of Tucuman Speciality Museums

Absolutely stunning!

Culture, history, nature and art all come together in this wonderful place. Founded by Hector Cruz and opened in 1998, it took ten years to bring everything together, what an achievement! Just to walk around and absorb the details in every piece adds another dimension to a visit of the area. And the entry fee was ridiculously cheap!

Cultural museum in the heart of the Calchaqui Valleys
The museum is focused on all of the aspects of the aboriginal culture. It is made up of two geology and anthropology rooms and has two more rooms whith tapestries, paintings and sculptures. The large backyard of the museum its full of huge statues made out of stone and representing divinities worshipping Pachamama.

    Don’t miss this beautiful place!
We had been in Amaicha overnight and as we drove out passed the entrance to the museum. We hadn’t heard much about it so decided to investigate. So glad we did - it’s one of the most beautiful places we’ve seen in the world. All the hard work that has gone into the design and construction of the beautiful buildings is mind boggling. Hector Cruz is a very talented man. Some of the buildings are devoted to his beautiful paintings too. Others show the early history of the local people and the geology of The Valley. Pachamama is the Earth Mother, revered by the indigenous people of the Andes. It reminded me a bit of Gaudi’s Parc Güell in Barcelona. Absolutely stunning and moving place to visit. Especially at this time when our earth is under threat. Plan on spending an hour plus looking around. Highly recommended. Can’t believe it’s not more well known.
