    Wonderful Stop
This is a wonderful stop and a must see. The Churches and Cathedrals in this part of the country is very different than Buenos Aires or Europe. Here we see more color and a more intimate approach to religion. A great, cool place to sit for a few minutes to contemplate the impact the Church has had in the history of the region.

    Beautiful cathedral in main plaza
This is a very beautiful church in the Plaza 9 de Julio in central Salta. It's pink and white exterior can't be missed. Its center dome is flanked by two towers, and reflects on the windows of the modern building next door. Inside, many sculptures, statues, and intricate details are gilded in gold. The church has been reconstructed three times since its humble adobe beginnings, and the last restoration was completed in 1883 in neocolonial style. During an earthquake on September 13th, 1692, the image of the Immaculate Conception fell from one of the towers. The fact that it did not break was considered a miracle and now every year, the Virgen del Milagro (Virgin of the miracle) is celebrated on September 15th. The remains of Martín Miguel de Güemes, Álvarez de Arenales, and Rudesindo Alvarado rest here. This is a beautiful and detailed church and well worth a visit to pop in and admire it. The facade outside lights up beautifully at night. Free tours are offered Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 5pm. Enjoy Salta!
