Sturdza Palace, Northeast Romania, Romania

Lovely but aging
This is a fairy tale location. I wish I could have spent more time inside, but it was growing late in the evening when we arrived. The exterior is a dream, the interior is in need of some repair. Still charming, nevertheless. There were a number of bride and groom couples all taking pictures on the grounds. That was a little distracting, but I completely understand the appeal of the location.

New year at Miclauseni
I have attended the New Year's Party at Miclauseni Castle and it was beautifully organized. The atmosphere was like in the old times, with beautiful music, good food and beautiful people. The neogotic architecture make it a dreamy castle.

Interesting experience
Sturdza castle is relatively close to Iasi city and can make a good one-day trip. It is located in the middle of a nice park and there is a restaurant close by and a monastery. Other things (a wine cellar, a guest house) are planned or under construction. Some remarkable events are regularly held here. The exterior of the building is quite interesting. The interiors will be restored in the next years but, even now, they worth a visit, especially a guided one. It’s a good place to better understand the last century of Romanian history and to see what damage can be inflicted by disasters like savage Red Army soldiers or communist ruling.
