A must see of the area

The monument is very beautiful. My father, Col(r.) Aurel Tutuianu had an important contribution to the renovation of of this wonderful place , together with the mayor of Targu Ocna town in 1974. In attachement you will find an touching appreciation letter from the General-maior (retired) Emil-Anton A. Popescu, former participant to the WW I battles on these places. The letter was sent after the General's participation to the opening ceremony after the monument renovation in 1972-1974.

    Old monument
This monument was raised in memory of the more than 14 000 romanian soldiers dead in the WW I(1916-1918) on the Oituz-Cosna-Ciresoaia front line. The stone made building is 22 m high, carved in the form of bombshell. Works for the erection of this monument were made by soldiers remaining alive after the battle in the summer of 1917. The building has a ground floor and two floors, connected by a spiral stair. Inside is a tomb of the unknown soldier and a little museum. 50 meters up further is the "Magura" monastery.

    Peaceful Remembrance
Before reaching the monastery atop the hill, you will find a monument commemorating those who sacrificed their life in WWI. The construction of the monument/museum began in 1925 . It is built with local limestone. The museum is open May 1 - Sep 15 from 09:00 - 13:00 and during bank and religious holidays. The museum is comprised of 3 floors; some frescoes.
