Folk Traditions Museum of Bucovina, Northeast Romania, Romania

4.5 (34 reviews) Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #2 in Suceava County Art Museums

Interesting and inspiring

The museum has exhibits like: - Clothing; - Tools; - Houses / Architecture; - Furniture, etc. All representing the way of thinking and the cultural spirit of traditional Bucovinean folk. It is an inspiring experience because you see the creativiti with which ancestors built all their tools and houses from simple materials, mainy wood. The complexity and specialization of the tools grew with time and some of the exibits are pretty complex (eg. img. 7). The belief / spiritual traditions of the Bucovinean Folk are also present in the museum. There is an entire room designed to show the New Year's "ritual" and many more smaller traditions like the burning of the plow head to banish any bad spirits and preventing them to enter the soil and ruin the crops. There are many more things ti see in the museum an I personally recommend taking a guide so you can have a better understanding of the exhibits and their meaning.

    Trip to Voronet, Romania
This was a very interesting museum. It takes you through a complete blast from the past of Romanian folk lore and authentic settings. The narrator was excellent, the settings were well displayed, the different rooms were large, the equipment, clothing, tools were superb. We enjoyed learning more about Romanian Folk Lore which is so different from Braila, Romania where we are from. This museum is well worth the time spent going through it.

Situated near from a beautiful church in Gura Humorului, central place of the town, this museum shows us the Bucovinian traditional art of the peasant for manufacturing of fabrics, pots, cutlery, tools who have helped him in the ordinary daily life. As well, there are showed the old and actual traditional customs his life, like the wedding, the Easter, the Christmas and so on. Don't hesitate for visiting this museum, as a time travel in to traditional Romanian life. It's worth!
