Cucuteni Neolithic Art Museum, Northeast Romania, Romania

Abstract Painted Pottery, 6000 years old

Apparently, the Cucuteni people were geometry fanatics. They loved to paint triangles, circles, squares and other geometrical figures. They also seemed to be obsessed about female torsos. All the female statues displayed in the museum are very curvy, with small head and no arms. As far as I understood, the only artifacts left behind by Cucuteni civilization are the ceramic pots and statues exposed in this museum. The exhibition really worth visiting if you're around. If no one tells you how old the exhibits are, you might believe it's a modern art gallery.

Museum of Eneolithic Art Cucuteni - Piatra Neamț
The Cucuteni Eneolithic Art Museum is unique in its theme in Romania, being at the same time a museum of history and art, which houses the most important collection of Eneolithic art in Southeastern Europe. Housed in the most beautiful building in Piatra-Neamț, declared Historical Monument by the Royal Court. Here is the International Cucuteni Cultural Research Center. How the museum is organized: The museum contains very old exhibits, from 4500 to 6000 years ago. The beautiful, painted vessels are fascinating. On the ground floor is the hall dedicated to decorative art and a hall dedicated to the history of the Cucuteni culture research. There are four categories of pots, probably cultic: crowns, binoculars, horticultural vessels and supports and columns. First floor are objects of the Cucutenian decorative art. There is an international interest in this museum and there is even a waiting list for archaeologists who want to come and visit the exhibits at Cucuteni. In the short time since its inauguration, the Cucuteni Museum has become remarkable by its uniqueness and spectacularity becoming one of the most appreciated and visited institutions in Romania thus contributing significantly to the affirmation of the city Piatra-Neamț as an important cultural-scientific and tourist center, both in the country and abroad. Visit schedule: 10:00-18:00 (April to September) 9:00-17:00 (October to March) Monday is closed. Address: Ştefan cel Mare street, no. 3, Piatra-Neamț Phone: 0233 226 471

    A highlight of a museum
Amazing art understanding and art techniques from a culture which lived more than 4000 BC.ago. The single exposed artefacts deserve a more large audience, I mean an international one. Unfortunately all the notices joined to the objects are written only in Romanian language. Notices in English as well, would enlarge the potential amount of visitors. I think these extraordinary exhibition would deserve o be better known, even out of Romania.
