Sigurgeirs Bird Museum, Northeast Region, Iceland
4.5 (77 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Lake Myvatn Speciality Museums
Bird reserve plus stuffed bird colection
This is an extra when looking at birds on lake myvitn. The area around the museum seemed to have a greater variety of birds than elsewhere on the lake. Nice reserve cafe with scopes available and nice viewing area. All free. You pay to go into the museum itself. 7 cases of stuffed birds, beautifully displayed. There is a second hall round the back which was also good with a 1930 s motor boat used to transport locals across the lake and other artifacts. This is a quality reserve hq.

Even if you don't like birds, the museum itself is a gem
Our guide suggested a visit to this museum. I went reluctantly. The museum is located in a sparsely occupied, open area and blends in with the scenery. It is dedicated to Sigurgeir Stefansson whose collections it houses. Once inside I was completely taken in by the vastness of the collections and their organization. The space is intimate and thoughtfully laid out. There is a second building which houses an old lake transport boat and artifacts. The location is beautiful. we were there for winter sunset which was breathtaking. They even have light refreshments available. If you are in the Lake Myvatn area, do go.
