It is a spring...

In the midd of winter, surrounded by snow, a steady stream of crystal clear water was pouring out. That is not so remarkable by itself. However, on the display board you could see that it is a rather nice place when the vegetation is out and everything is green. The spring is the "birthplace" of the river Ruhr who gave name to a whole region, the Ruhrgebiet. The Ruhrgebiet was the heart of coal mining, steel production and the engine for Germany's industrial growth and prosperity. And that's why this place is special: something small and rather insignificant can become big and important. Access by car is easy. Also many opportunities to access by hiking or biking for example from Winterberg.

    Well presented river spring
It is quite hard to believe that from this picturesque spring comes one of the most important rivers of Germany. The spring itself is well presented and invites for a picknick. The parking lot is just a few minutes walking distance. Overall: nice, but not overwhelming.
