Rheinisches Landesmuseum Bonn, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

Great museum if you know German to a native proficiency

An interesting building and excellent ground floor exhibit. Unfortunately the rest of the exhibits above ground floor were predominantly in German with no English anywhere, no leaflets/paper materials or anything either. We ended up just walking around at a leisurely pace, looking at the many Roman artefacts and unable to learn much about them. Certainly seems a museum for national tourists rather than international.

A bit of a treasure hunt...
The museum is one of the largest collections of archaeology and art in Nordrhein-Westfalia. unfortunately, after its rebuilding about 8 years ago, it is now organised on a half thematic, half chronological order. So if, like me you were looking for Roman and Frankish remains, you get to see most of the Museum, as it is dispersed all over the house. There are usually exhibitions on as well and lots of children on class trips, so the place can get lively. Still well worth the trip.
