Small but lovely collection

Relatively small collection of medieval religious art but still there are some very impressive pieces. In particular the carved oak pieces are lovely and the memento mori fascinating. I was in here for not very long. A discount is provided with the CologneCard but I still think it’s somewhat pricey.

    Excellent museum, great collection!
We visited this museum on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty quiet. We loved the stained glass collection here. A lot of it is at eye level so you can get up close and see the incredible detail, something you usually don't get to see. The main area is in a renovated church which is interesting, and has a lot of exhibits. Worth a visit!

    Good collection in interesting spaces
I'm a big fan of ecclesiastical art, so I very much enjoyed visiting the Museum Schnutgen during a recent trip to Cologne. The highlight of the visit for me was the first gallery, which displays a wide range of stained glass windows including an extensive set from a Cistercian foundation focussed on St. Bernard. There was also a wide range of statues and carvings displayed in a deconsecrated church and a small collection of liturgical vestments. All exhibits were labelled in English as well as German. I think there was also an audio guide, but I didn't use it personally. Look out for a wheeled statue of Christ riding a donkey, for use in Palm Sunday processions!
