LWL-Industriemuseum Henrichshuette Hattingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

4.5 (75 reviews) Monday: Spent Ranking #2 in Hattingen Speciality Museums

Beautiful location

For 150 years the sparks were flying at the blast furnaces at the Henrichshutte ironworks when the kilns were opened to spew out the molten iron. Today we have brought this authentic historic ironworks back to life. Over 10,000 people once worked here on the gigantic site, producing coke, and casting, rolling and forging iron and steel. The museum has a number of different trails where visitors can learn more about the dif ferent work processes. They can also take the glass elevator to the top of the oldest existing blast furnace in the region, watch our steel casting demonstrations, go on a torchlight tour of the works at night, or simply sit back and enjoy a piano recital in the blowing house.

    Steel factory
Once outside you go back in time. Passing an old tram (nostalgia). You see huge equipment all over the place. Very impressive and realizing making steel is a totally different process than working in information technology. I was impressed. You walk thru the process step by step. Even on a rainy day this is impressive.

    Steel plant museum
This museum gives good iformation about steel and coal industrie informer times. The Complete plant was disassembled from Chinese workers and transfered to Chine. There it is still working. In germany the plant was not anymore feasible. 18.000 workers lost there job. But they stay still in Hattingen in their company own houses and have mostly changed their job. The training program was financed by the goverment and the steel copany.
