Tulikivi Soapstone Factory tour and museum

You may think this is just a retail shop to buy Tulikivi fireplaces but it is so much more! We watched a 12 minute video of the company (offered in several languages). It was really interesting to learn about the history of soapstone in Finland and Russia. We were in awe walking around the retail floor seeing all the beautiful stoves. They are truly works of art! I wish we could have one in our home in the USA! Then we walked out to see a retired soapstone quarry. Afterwards we visited the small but very interesting museum! Last but not least we walked around the beautiful grounds. This is one of our favorite stops in Koli!

    Stone village exhibition
"Stone village" is located In Nunnanlahti, Juuka, about 75km north from Joensuu, and about 23km from Koli. There is permanent geological exhibition (unique in Finland) downstairs and annual art exhibition upstairs, there is also souveniershop. In same site are Tulikivi soapstone factory, and their sales exhibition - cafe/ restaurant are in different building than exhibition. January 2015 Sagrada Familia in ice (church made by ice) was builded here. Prices was adult 7€, children 3,5€, less than six years free. Both exhibitions including. Opening times are variating, please check before. In summer 2015 art exhibition is Ismo Hölttös photographs and Airi Hietalas jewelry.

Go see the stone exhibition, avoid buffet.
Old glory gone sour. Sales exhibition of great looking soap stone fireplaces. Nice stone exhibition. Poor food, Saturday buffet worst food experience for years: basically everything taisteless, no imagination or any ambition at all. Hamburger was OK, though.
