Beautiful gardens - a definite highlight!
Beautiful gardens, well set out & worth a visit. Lovely to see families and visitors out on a gorgeous sunny day. There are bush walks which we will try the next time we visit and themed areas with nicely placed benches and shaded areas to sit and relax. We caught the cable car to the gardens for $5 and walked back to the city via the gardens and cemetery. The rose gardens and cafe - we just loved it. The garden was in full bloom and while the wait was 35 minutes at the cafe, the coffee and food was delicious and the service was fantastic.

Winding shady paths through varied gardens
I would recommend buying a single ticket for the cable car and riding up to the top, so you start at the highest point of the Botanic Gardens. There is a lovely view point over the city and bay here, before you start down through the Gardens, back into the city. The paths wind around and there is a choice of directions you can take. We took some quite steep paths - fortunately mostly downhill! There are different areas in the gardens, which were lovely. We walked through the rose garden and exited through the old cemetery.
