Stellar experience with a stellar crew and stellar cave
Honestly, I didn’t know much going in but Matt, Jess, and Tess were phenomenally kind and knowledgeable in explaining and supporting us on how to best go about the rafting experience. Their banter with my 72 year old mother was hilarious and they safely encouraged her to participate in all aspects of the float/walk through the cave and marvel at the glow worms. If you’re on the fence on coming out, don’t be! We loved our time here - both because of the excellent service and beautiful caves.

The greatest adventure
I booked my partner and mates from Aussie onto this trip as a final hurrah to their trip around NZ and man did we ever leave the best till last. We did the black abyss tour which was probably the most extreme tour you can do in NZ and really takes you back to true old school adventure guiding with the real excitement that comes with that. That being said, our guides Alistair and Ollie kept everyone really comfortable in trusting their ability and were super professional in their roles. This tour has the best of all adventure elements cherry picked and packed in. A 5 hour tour sounds like a long time but at no point was I bored and I have a very short attention span. Can't recommend this enough and would especially recommend this to kiwis who are looking to do something a bit different for the day.

Black abyss blew me away
If you’re looking for adventure, my one piece of advice to you would be (provided you’re able, willing, and fit) to stay away from the black labyrinth at all costs. 16 people trudging in a line for a bit of floating isn’t the most exciting. However, black abyss was a fantastic experience. We were lucky to have a very small group (that was relatively brave), so we got plenty of time to talk with the guides. There was also substantially less waiting around and we were able to complete both the black abyss and black labyrinth routes in the time it normally takes to complete black labyrinth. The guides are very passionate and I felt safe and comfortable at all times. Overall the experience was well worth the price tag (with the caveat that large groups can lead to long waiting times).
