Incredible view
It's a really easy walk up mount Eden, you can easily get buses to nearby. The view of Auckland on a sunny day is incredible. I really enjoyed this, one of the best things I did in Auckland. I'd definitely recommend doing this if you're visiting, it's a really nice walk up, not too steep like other reviews suggest.

An extinct volcano in the centre of the city
The route up to the now grassy crater of the volcano is clearly marked and part of it is well maintained boardwalks. There are tremendous views of the city from the top and the crater itself, a sacred site, is interesting. We walked from Verandahs Hostel and found it to be well worth the walk. There is car parking at the foot of Mount Eden.
