Lake Mangamahoe, North Island, New Zealand

4.5 (60 reviews) Spent Ranking #14 in Taranaki Region Bodies of Water

A must visit

If you do nothing else in the New Plymouth area then this is what you must do! A gentle and easy walk around this lake (or you can drive if feeling tired) gives you several exceptional vantage points to photograph Mount Taranaki .... a photographers dream place to visit. The lake also has a lot of wildlife to enjoy, if you get tired of seeing the spectacular Mount Taranaki towering above the clouds with its snow capped grandeur.

A lovely place for a walk!
Beautiful views of lake, trees and mountain in the distance. The lake has ducks and swans on it which makes a scenic photo. Go for a wander through the forest. Very peaceful. Unfortunately the day we visited there was a drone buzzing around. I recommend at least a drive here for a quick photo stop if you have limited time.

    Serene. Peaceful.
Peaceful serene and quiet. So close to nature, the trees and the lake. In clear winter sky, you can spot Mount Taranaki. Visit this park to get away from urban stress. Spend 30 to 60minutes walking along the trail. Kick some sand and enjoy the fresh air.
