    Must visit!
I hadn’t visited for years despite living in Auckland. I greatly enjoyed the whole experience with special exhibition of Stonehenge and great photographic display of work by Olaf Peterson. The emphasis is very much on New Zealand and much of international displays have been removed. The content is thoughtfully curated and in a modern and often interactive. My recommendation is to avoid rainy days during school holidays as there was a large number of children. The Maori performance is well worth booking for international guests followed by walking into the meeting house and viewing all the Maori artifacts and brilliant Lindaur and Goldie paintings.

    An Excellent Museum
My wife and I were in Auckland for 5 days in January and we rode the ho-ho to the Auckland Museum and had an excellent visit. It reminded me somewhat of the museum in Dublin. I don't know what the admission was because it was included with our ho-ho ticket. We are museum and history buffs, so we weren't going to miss the museums in New Zealand and we had heard a lot of good things about Auckland's. We found the Maori exhibits interesting, as well as the prehistoric ones, but the war memorial section was most compelling. World War 1 is particularly poignant to New Zealanders and their contribution was remarkable. The sections on their participation on Gallipoli and the Somme were very moving. In fact, we visited or drove through probably one hundred small (and large) towns in NZ and every one of them had a WW1 monument, very much like France. So we would highly recommend the Auckland Museum as a place to visit while in the area.
