Cheese heaven!
Specialty Cheese Shop Edam is situated in a 16th century building in the historical centre of Edam. Many tourists visit the attractive shop where they can find the genuine Edam cheeses or the cow, goat and sheep cheeses made at Henri Willig’s cheese farm. There are also organic cheeses and cheeses from other European countries for sale, as well as exclusive wines and fine foods.

A great place to sample and buy your choice of Edam cheese
The cheese factory is only open in July and August but this shop carried all the Edam cheeses and we were able to sample any cheese we wanted to. The young man, behind the counter, was very pleasant, helpful and informative. I was surprised how many Edam cheeses there were- pesto / cumin / baby to name just a few. The honey mustard complemented the cheese beautifully.

Super cheese shop - try to take the tour
Our visit to this cheese shop included a free tour of the cheese factory and a demonstration on the making of wooden shoes. I'm not sure how you arrange that tour, since ours was part of a group package, but I would certainly ask in the shop, as it was really fun. Any visit to Edam should include this experience. After the tour, there is cheese tasting and a great cheese and souvenir shop. Allow about 1 1/2 hours.
