Outstanding! PIcasso in Holland
Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar, which opened in 1875, is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands. The museum manages the Alkmaar City Council collection, with more than 12,000 objects. The collection of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century paintings is outstanding, with masterpieces of national significance. The museum is also known for its large collection of Bergen School works. Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar is the city of Alkmaar’s memory and the starting point for anyone who wants to experience and discover the history and art of Alkmaar and the surrounding area. This is presented in a topical and personal way in changing and interactive exhibitions for young and old.

Excellent museum
Alkmaar is generally a very charming place, with tourists often coming on the day of cheese market. That's really very touristy. Go there only if you are a REAL tourist. For the rest Alkmaar is lovely and the Stedelijk Museum has great exhibitions and a very interesting collection. The top floor has a good collection of artists from the Bergen School. And some of the temporary exhibitions were really great! If you go to Alkmaar, check it out.

Paul Rijkens Collection
Spend a wonderful time looking at the marvelous paintings that once were part of the Paul Rijkens Collection. Rijkens founded Unilever, made the Bilderberg Meetings happen, and was a great patron and connoisseur of contemporary art. Really worth a visit! It's a nice museum, and very well organized now under Covid-19 rules!
