Interesting museum
The building is really impressive. Inside is interesting, specially when you come in the part where the old steam machines are working. Everything is taken care of and the sound and smell is just soothing. The volenteers are a bit cranky, and grumpy or not talking at all. But they take good care of the machines, and that's important.

Amazing day out
We went as a part of a group visiting while at the Haarlem Jamborette. It was an incredible day out! The museum started allowing us to do zorbing, then we had a museum tour where we got to see the steam machines in action and do a minute one ourselves to see how it works. Then we got to go on the back canal of the museum to do paddle boat racing in old fashioned army boats, and finished with a trip to the beach which is across the road. Highly recommend this place, the staff are so friendly!

One of the most fun and amazing museums of this museum-junky's life
I think any specific interest in steam engines and industrial history or design would send a person over the top in this small, well-staffed, incredibly provisioned museum (which was called up as emergency backup and used for actual work within the last decades), but it really will appeal to anyone at all. It is steampunk, deep-history, hands-on, industrial design, gadgety, mad-scientist Dumbledore's office stuff... all the whirring and bobbing and pumping and spinning is just magical. The noises alone are a full experience. We were fortunate enough to be there when almost no one else was, and the enthusiastic, generous, quirky staff demonstrated all manner of machine and even the ovens, to our great thrill. I go to A LOT of museums, and this one is in in my Top 3 ever.
