Nice place for a cup of coffee.

The court predates 1572 and was a monastery. In that year it housed townspeople made homeless due construction of new city defenses against the Spanish. Later it was used as home for the elderly. It currently houses a restaurant with the same name. Anyway, we sat outside in the court yard and had a cup of coffee, while admiring the looks of this obviously very old place. It's surprisingly quiet for its location in the heart of the old city.

This is a really nice looking building - well worth seeking out.
We came upon this lovely looking building purely by chance, while strolling in Alkmaar’s lovely city centre; and “by chance” visits somehow feel best. From what I could gather, it is now a restaurant, and I’m not sure if having a meal here is the only way of seeing inside.

great building with a history dating back to 1574
Of course the building as it stands now does not look the same as almost 444 years ago. There have been alterations and renovations. The most recent renovations have kept the building in a very original historic state. No clash with modern times anywhere. Worth a visit!
