Free, little curio musuem

The best museum under the ground
The archeological museum Haarlem can be found in the 17th century cellar of the famous "Vleeshal", the Butchers' Guild Hall on the Grote Markt. Behind a small door on the square some old stone steps lead to the museum itself. Watch your head! It has a pleasant and interesting display of urban archeology. Lots of old vases, dishes, shoes and tools or decorations. Also a replica of an archeological site, with tools, and even a skeleton! Children can dig up various real historical items from a sandpit. They can check with the volunteers if they correctly guessed what it is. Several old maps complete the show, often also with a temorary exhibition. Please note: The museum opens from Wednesday to Sunday, from 13:00 - 17:00 hrs. Monday and Tuesday closed.

    Ok, it's free
We came here on a wet day in Haarlem on our last day and little money left, we found out it was for free so we thought we would kill an hour here, it was ok interesting but nothing special. To be honest it's free so you can't moan.
