Badlands Overlook, North Dakota, United States

Great views (but be quiet).

This is the last overlook after 24 miles of driving before you have to turn around on the former “Scenic Loop” road. There is a small parking area and great views of the vista. Just remember to be courteous. We wanted just a minute to take in the views, wind and everything nature had to offer but a man had to tell other travelers (loudly) of all the places he has been. So, we enjoyed the views but the company not so much. We quickly left and headed back.

    Amazing!
The first sight of the Badlands will take your breath away. It rises up from out of nowhere. There are amazing vistas and great trails. Take plenty of water as the heat bakes you even on a rather mild day. We traveled with 10 adults and 8 children all under the age of 12. The kids loved the hikes.

    Awesome start to the Badlands
As I looked at the beauty of the terrain, I found myself wondering, "What did the pioneers think when they saw this?" The breathtaking views also remind you of the dangers of the Badlands. The Badlands were named appropriately. This overlook has clean bathrooms, lots of room for photo opportunities and picnic tables. It was incredibly windy the day we stopped so we didn't stay long. It is worth the stop before you go into the south unit of Teddy Roosevelt National Park.
